Gold, Silver Prices Today: The price of ten grams of 24-carat gold remained stable today over the trading price on Sunday, and is selling at Rs 56,060 on Monday. Meanwhile, the price of a kilogram of silver increased on January 23, selling at Rs 72,300. The price of ten grams of 22-carat gold in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad stands at Rs 52,250 on Sunday. The price for the same is Rs 53,230 in Chennai, and Rs 52,400 in Jaipur and Lucknow.
The price for a kg of silver on January 23 is Rs 72,300 in most of the major cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Pune – except Chennai and Hyderabad, where it was at Rs 74,300 per kg.
One gram of 22-carat gold was at Rs 5,225 this morning while eight grams will cost Rs 41,800. Ten grams of the precious metal will set one back by Rs 52,250 while 100 grams costs Rs 5,22,500.
The rate of gold jewellery differs across the country due to taxes imposed by states, excise duty and varying making charges. Over the years, the shiny yellow metal had been a good bet against inflation and investors have looked at it as a valuable asset.
The price of silver in India is determined by change in prices internationally; it also depends on movement of the rupee against the dollar. If the rupee falls against its international counterpart and the prices remain consistent internationally, silver ends up becoming dearer.
