Gujarat cabinet: Kanu Desai gets Finance, Rushikesh Patel allotted Health

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who took oath on Monday along with his 16 other ministers, later allocated portfolios to them.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel allotted portfolios to his cabinet ministers who took oath at a ceremony here on Monday.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel kept the portfolio of Urban Development, Urban Housing Development, Road and Building, Mining, Tourism, Narmada and Kalpsar, Port and Information Broadcasting departments.

Kanu Desai has been given the Finance and Energy and Petrochemicals departments.

Europe’s gas market faces risks from EU price cap

A European Commission plan for a gas price cap risks reducing liquidity in Europe’s gas market, posing a threat to how it functions, head of trading at Norwegian oil company Equinor told Reuters, but its own gas deliveries will not be affected.

The aim of the cap is to shield European consumers from the surge in energy prices they have faced since Russia invaded Ukraine, and which have helped to fuel inflation.

For Equinor, the biggest concern is what happens to the liquidity in the gas market, Helge Haugane, Equinor’s head of gas and power trading, said in an interview.

Pele’s health improving: Doctors

  • The health of Brazilian soccer great Pele was improving but there was still no forecast for when he could be discharged from hospital after being admitted there late last month, according to a medical report released.

  • Pele, 82, has been battling colon cancer since September 2021 and was hospitalized on Nov. 29 for doctors to reevaluate his treatment. He is also being treated for a respiratory infection diagnosed following his hospitalization.

Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel has allocated portfolios to his ministers. Patel has named Kanubhai Desai as Gujarat Finance Minsiter while Harsh Sanghavi has retained the home portfolio. Sixteen other ministers, including eight of cabinet rank, were also sworn in. The new entrants include 11 former ministers.
