Telangana on Friday reported 279 fresh COVID-19 cases taking the statewide tally to 7,95,572. Hyderabad saw the highest number of cases with 172. A health department bulletin said 119 people recuperated from the infectious disease and the cumulative number of recoveries till date was 7,89,680. The recovery rate stood at 99.26 per cent.

MCD sets up help desks to facilitate property taxpayers
Help desks have been set up at all zone-level offices in Delhi to facilitate people in paying property taxes, civic officials said on Friday. Help desks and tax collection counters shall work from 8 AM to 8 PM till June 30, 2022, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi said in a statement. This step has been taken by the MCD for convenience of property tax payers and to help them avoid last-minute rush, it said.
Active COVID-19 infections breach 2,500-mark in TN
Tamil Nadu, witnessing a surge in new coronavirus cases, added 589 infections on Friday, which include four returnees from domestic and overseas, pushing the caseload to 34,59,586, the health department said. The death toll remained unchanged at 38,026 with zero fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, a medical bulletin said. As many as 208 people have recuperated in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 34,18,866 leaving 2,694 active cases.
IMD predicts heavy rains in Konkan, central Maharashtra from June 18
The coastal Konkan region and central Maharashtra are likely to witness heavy rainfall activity from June 18, the India Meteorological Department said on Friday. “In view of active monsoon conditions, rainfall activity over Konkan and adjoining ghat areas of Madhya (central) Maharashtra is expected to gradually increase from June 18. Widespread rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is expected over the region during the period,” it said. The IMD said the southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of north Arabian Sea, Gujarat, entire central Maharashtra and the Marathwada region.

Congress workers on Friday staged protests across Maharashtra over ED action against Rahul Gandhi and accused the BJP-led Union government of harassing political rivals. The Congress has been protesting across the country against ED issuing summons to party leader Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald money-laundering case. Gandhi (51) had spent almost 30 hours with the ED sleuths from Monday to Wednesday during which he was questioned and his statement recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The probe pertains to alleged financial irregularities in Young Indian Private Limited, promoted by the Congress, that owns the National Herald newspaper. The newspaper is published by Associated Journals Limited (AJL) and owned by Young Indian.

Income Tax Department conducts searches in J-K, Delhi
Income Tax Department carried out search and seizure operations at various locations in New Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, according to an official statement on Friday. According to the Finance Ministry statement, the search operations were conducted on June 15. “Income Tax Department carried out search and seizure operations on June 15, 2022, on a leading manufacturer and seller of Jamawar Shawls, Pashmina and Kashmiri Shawls. The search operation covered more than 15 premises spread across Srinagar, Anantnag and Delhi,” said the statement.
