Homes evacuated when gunshot strikes gas meter in Pittsburgh


Nearby homes were evacuated after a gunshot struck a gas meter during an incident in Pittsburgh’s Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood on Friday morning.The incident happened just after 12 a.m. on the 3000 block of Shadeland Avenue.Pittsburgh Public Safety officials said police responded to a ShotSpotter alert and found evidence of a shooting. They also detected a strong odor of natural gas. Police said a gas meter on a home had been struck by a bullet and nearby homes were evacuated.Responding firefighters shut off the gas and the gas company repaired the meter.No one was hurt in the shooting.All residents have returned to their homes.
