One Planet: Coal Miners And Black Lung Disease

On this edition of Your Call’s One Planet Series, we are having a conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chris Hamby about his new book, Soul Full of Coal Dust: A Fight for Breath and Justice in Appalachia.

Hamby details the tragic resurgence of black lung disease in Appalachia, and how mining companies have hired doctors and lawyers to help deny much-needed benefits to miners. Between 1995 and 2004, the disease killed 10,000 miners
