To Monroe City and County and family and friends of Captain Joe Liedel: Thank you for the love you showed to one of our local Heroes. He was a young man who was a volunteer fireman for 28 years, who loved animals, was loved by family and many friends of all ages and who donated his organs as wonderful gifts.
He left on his last journey, answering another fire call! The show of respect and pride as hundreds attended services for Joe, or lined the route to the cemetery, led by fellow firemen on many trucks, with police blocking the roads the whole way, was such an inspiration.
Monroe came together to honor one of its own. Thank you to those who visited, those who lined the route or helped the family in any way. Your love is amazing.
Thank you to the organizers, the Merkle Funeral Home, the brotherhood of fire and police, family and friends and the businesses who went above and beyond to show empathy. You all wore your hearts on your sleeves.
Bless you and Joe Liedel for bringing us all together at this hard time! RIP young man; never forgotten.
