MARKET LIVE: Sensex gains 300 points; broader indices underperform


The Indian inched over half a per cent higher on Wednesday after a flat start..

Among the headline indices, the S&P BSE Sensex traded over 300 points higher at 39,924 levels and the Nifty50 index hovered near the 11,700-mark. Bajaj Finance dipped 3 per cent and was the top Sensex drag after it gave business update for the quarter ended September 2020. Besides, IndusInd Bank and Bajaj Finserv also slipped 2 per cent each.

On the other hand, Reliance Industries gained 4 per cent after announcing that the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority would invest Rs 5,512 crore into Reliance Retail Ventures for 1.2-per cent stake. Meanwhile, Titan rose 6 per cent after providing business update.

The trend among Nifty sectoral indices was largely negative, led by Nifty Private Bank index, down 1 per cent.

The broader market, meanwhile, underperformed, with the S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices slipping into the red.
